The battle of the hatrick heros
- Tyrone and Kevin

Sat 24th April 2004
HTCC 1st XI vs Hackney Cricket Academy
Well this was quite a nice first game for a
new skipper. I won the toss and inserted the the opposition into
bat, we bowled them out for 110, with good fielding and bowling, an
innings which I might add, included a ‘team hatrick’ and a genuine
hatrick! Then we knocked the runs off for just 2 down, my opening
batting partner helped himself to an unbeaten 50 and our new number
4 (Taffy) weighed in with an unbeaten twenty something score, it was
a hot sunny day, what else could I ask for? Well maybe some runs for
myself! First game in charge and I get a third ball duck! That was
the only cloud on my blue sky day though, as I think the game served
its purpose, nearly everyone's cricket skills got a bit of an airing
– all the bowlers had a bowl, three of the batters had some time at
the crease and I got a bit of an idea of who’s in the frame for the
league teams next week.
So now we come to 'The
battle of the hatrick heros' - Tyrone and Kevin
In any ordinary game, a young man
who bowls like a demon, with genuine late swing and pace, who reeks
havoc with the oppo batters and only missed out on a hatrick because
the 2nd ball was dropped and the dropee then throws the
wickets down for a run out, hence creating a team hatrick, well that
man Tyrone Reis would have been Man of the Match. Unfortunately in
this game he was upstaged and how we will be hearing about it for
years to come! Enter Mr Kevin Burgess, classy and consistent with
the bat, but whose leg spin in recent years has taken some tap –
well Kev has been working very hard on his bowling and the results
were plain for all to see. The last ball of a good 1st
over from Mr B was a sharp stumping from Taffy (who took 3 stumpings
in the game). The first ball of his next over was a repeat dismissal
and on the next delivery, the batman had a bit of a ‘yahoo’ at a
ball pitched outside leg stump, whose bat swished quite a long way
from the ball with no proficiency at all and was bowled middle
stump. This produced a return for Kevin of 3-9 off 1.2 overs!
