Five for Watson as Trinibis Maintain Pressure
at the top

1st June 2002
Old Haberdashers CC v Holtwhites Trinibis CC
92 – 10
93 – 6
On arrival at Old Haberdashers on Saturday,
we realised that the toss was going to be a vital one to win. With
the outfield very wet and the wicket as green as it was damp,
bowling first was a must. With the Jubilee weekend about to start
there was nothing left to do but call ‘heads’. When the coin
landed, there she was, her face beaming up at me, I’m sure she
winked at me and with that, Old Haberdashers were padding up!
Although Watson and Olam bowled well, both
struggled with their run ups, Buggy was reduced to a 4 pace run-up
such were the conditions. This however proved a blessing in
disguise, as he was able to conserve his energy and bowl right
through and finished with the superb figures of:
Overs
Maidens
Runs
Wickets
21.2
9
25
5
(Ed - He didn't actually get his first
wicket until the 15th over would you believe!)
Good support from Olam, Shah and Burgess
restricted the scoring of Old Haberdashers to a minimum picking up
a wicket apiece. Even the hardest of cynic might have said that 'Roomy'
got one to turn a bit! Great support in the field came from Mason
and Shah who took good catches. Good ground fielding also
restricted the flow of runs. Pat ‘Golden Arm’ Micallef, the
catalyst of a good run out to break the second wicket and the
highest scoring one of the Old Haberdasher's innings. With one
more run out, Haberdashers finished on 92 all out from 42.2 overs.
A good performance in the field, left the
equation of 93 to get with ten wickets in hand with all most all
of June left to get them. No worries!
Shah and Hewitt again started off well
putting on a solid start for the 1st wicket, putting on
24. before Hewitt was bowled by one the most vicious looping full
tosses I have ever seen! The next three wickets were lost for just
9 runs.
With the score on 33-4 Evans joined Burgess
who then put on 46 for the 5th wicket to take the score
to 79, before Evans (21) was bowled. Burgess (25) was also bowled
with the score now on 86, a few tense overs passed, as everyone
knew what our batting was capable of (see Boxmoor report). Watson
and Olam however were able to see the game home, with 'Wasser'
hitting a six to win the match. This win was enough to see us
elevated to second, behind North Mymms II.
A good win on a decidedly dodgy pitch and
outfield! Well-done Fella’s!
