Watson Six Too Good For Potton.

22nd June 2002
Holtwhites Trinibis v Potton Town CC
HTCC 204 - 10
Potton Town 61 - 10
Rohan ‘Buggy’ Watson moved to 35 league
wickets last Saturday with a great display of fast, aggressive
bowling and helped Holtwhites Trinibis maintain their presence at
the top end of Division 4.
After losing the toss and being put into bat,
Holtwhites set about a target that they would be able to defend on
a wicket that, although damp from the heavy rainfall the night
before and would offer help to the bowler, still remained quiet
firm on top potentially offering some aid to the batsmen.
Shah and Hewitt, ever presents at the top of the
order set off in positive style again, these two again threatening
to put on a big partnership. Shah was the first wicket to fall
after a lapse in concentration and dollied the ball straight to
mid off. Hewitt gave everyone a scare when he copped a nasty
rising delivery just above the right eye, I remember as I ran out
the ice and water, someone saying behind me ‘Who’s going to
organise the bloody tour now!’ However as Blighter departed the
field to get his head stitched, blood dripping from his wound, a
glance at Barry Stephenson with the comment ‘You owe £155 you
know!’ we all knew………
Bournemouth here we come!
With Paul in the care of Chase Farm’s finest,
wickets were falling just as people looked set to go on at regular
intervals throughout the innings, it was hard to get any impetus
on the game. The partnerships of note were Elech/Evans - 46 for
the 4th and a great effort from Archer/Dookheran 39 for the 8th
ensured that Holtwhites reached the psychological barrier of 200,
eventually finishing on 204-10.
Commitment can be summed up in one word ‘Hewitt!’
fresh from A&E Blighter managed to make it back to bat with
the addition of 14 stitches to play on bravely as only Blighter
can, to add precisely 0 to his score before holing out at long
off! Unlucky!
With a few on the board, an attacking field was
set for both Watson and Cragwell, who set about dismantling Potton’s
top order. Siggy, again bowling well for little reward frustrated
at one end, whilst Watson was cleaning up at the other. Dookheran
and Archer taking a brace of good catches each at short leg and
leg gully respectively. I also took one that some might have said
was above average and others to shout ‘Jesus Christ brother,
that was the best catch I have ever seen in my life’ - Jay Shah,
his words, not mine!
Elech also gave good support with the ball and
bagged himself a couple of wickets along the way. After the draw
at St Albans, a good performance was needed to get the show back
on the road and a good all round team effort achieved that.
Well done.
