Joe Whyte Reports

2nd XI vrs Hadley Wood Green 24th April 2004
"Kojak"
picked me up at my house and we got to the game late (just a few
minutes)... nothing new here then. We are usually late for
friendlies (for luck).
Quick change and we got the game going. Glen won the toss and with
the bowlers concurring, decided to field.
I was concerned that not having played last year and having no
nets in the winter, i wouldn't get much runs. To compound matters,
i had brought the wife along and I NEVER make any runs when she
comes to cricket. I decided I wasn't going for any sixes today
because that is usually my downfall.
However, with the customary seven dropped catches and TV's whining
I was convinced that things would be SOS (Same Old S...) Not to
worry.
Buggy came to watch with about an hour left and with us being one
short he suited up and took position in the gully. First ball from
Tony Bacchus and edge to Buggy - wicket!
Tony requested that we clone Buggy and replace all the fieldsmen -
himself included!
The visitors made 155 all out. Of note was Little James Braille, a
thirteen-year-old trapped in a seven-year-old's body. He batted
really well and came on later to bowl one of our openers.
Well it was our time to reply. I was batting at number three. We
got off to a flying start. After about three deliveries I was at
the crease, and just as quickly as i got there I was out... for
51(about ten fours - proper strokes too, no slogging!)
Tony B. came and departed even more quickly and before we knew it
we were four down for about seventy little bit. Buggy took the
score past 110 and left.
Cue Tony the big Aussie and Kojak. With some Lusty hits from the
Aussie and some heart-stopping moments from kojak they took the
score to about 150 for eight.
With a huge sigh of relief, Kojak and young Daniel the fast bowler
took it home without any further loss.
The end of another eventful day in the Two's.
P.S.
I rather relish playing with the Two's. The jokes, the close
finishes and in general having fun while winning. besides, that's
where my ride home is.
After giving up your weekend, it makes no sense if you can't have
fun while winning. Some "stiff-necked" people should try to
understand that. (Who do you mean Joe? - Ed)
We chat, we laugh, BUT we take our catches... and sometimes make a
little runs (and Ducks!)
Cotton (Joe Whyte)
(Thanks for your
report Joe - much appreciated - Ed)
