Western Union Cup Barking 1st XI -an email view from
Tyrone

Young Tyrone Reis, newly promoted to the 2nd XI, emails
his comments on the 2nd XI game against Wilmington
'again we had another strange game, but unfortunately we lost
this one. kojak was
captain and we took over the role of the first team to play one
of
their cup games (We had to play both the Becker Cup 4th round and
the rescheduled Western Union cup round robin game, originally
abandoned due to rain, on the same day. The one's played the
Becker and the two's played the Western Union game. The two's had
to play a 1st XI game against Barking - Ed) . kojak won the toss
and told us 'i dont want us running after a big score', because he
was informed they had a strong side. (personally I thought they
were sh*t!), anyway kojak went on the defensive straight away and
we went into bat first and opened with jay (Shah) and mark
(Davies). a young kid was bowling to jay and he (Jay) looked as if
he was happy with the deliverys and played strong defensive shots.
but when mark had to face him he got bowled straight away, the kid
bowled him a yorker on his leg stump (and we all know mark has a
weak leg
side), then winston went in and the kid bowled the same ball, in
the same over to
winston and also got him out for a duck. both of them trying to
hit the
ball instead of defending their stumps. then faz went in and in
the kids next
over he also bowled the same ball to faz and got him too. by this
time our
whole team were under a lot of pressure and we knew we had to do
something. jay
was the only one who had stayed there. they brought on another
bowler who was
lifting the ball onto jays chest and forcing him backwards.
eventually jay
jumped backwards and edged the ball onto his own stumps. by this
time, we were
a ridiculous 4 men down for only 20! the only batsmen to play any
good against
this team was one of quadir's mates (cant remember his name off
the tip of my
head). anyway i batted atrociously too, but got the second highest
score in the
team with a humungous 8 runs (what a joke)! we all got out for 80
runs.
then we bowled, wasim bowled so bad, 4-5 wides in one over! kojak
also wasn't
at his best and i only bowled about 3 overs, so never really had a
chance to
release my arm. oh well, you win some and lose some. anyway bye.'
