Home Page Editorial Column 19th
August 2002

You may have thought that I've been hibernating
these last few weeks, as the web updates have been few and far
between - You may be right! I could say that we have had tour
(see below) which has prevented me updating the site and that I've
changed PC's, which has resulted in a myriad of technical problems
for the website - I haven't been able to publish to the server for
a couple of weeks (sometimes computers really drive you mad!), but
the simple truth is that I don't like losing - I need to have
motivation and inspiration to update this site and these drain out
of me when we don't get 30 points in the league games. So before I
carry on this column, I will apologise in advance, to all those not in the
Saturday 1st XI, because the update cycle of this website is
directly proportional to the fortunes of the Sat 1st XI!
The 1st XI have gone through a period where we
have played a number of teams in the top five, in which mostly we
were the better team on the day, but with the games ending in
draws and as you generally have to field first to win games in
this league, we came away with only a handful of points. Then we
played bottom of the league, Luton Town II, bowled them out cheaply,
with 'Buggy' Watson taking his 50th league wicket of the season (A
record in this division I believe), it then poured with rain and
this was the only game in our division to be rained off! This game
was followed by a washout against relegation candidates
Chorleywood II. A sequence which has left us with only an outside
chance of promotion and still the possibility of relegation!
So you can see that this website did not stand a chance of being
updated in the last few weeks!
Ah, but now it is Monday and I'm
updating this page, mmh, perhaps we won at the weekend. Well, we
went into the game needing to win the last four and we were due to
play Totteridge, who had been at the top of the table until 2 weeks
ago. The 1st team were back to their best. Totteridge at one point
had 60 on the board after 40 overs, such was our dominance. In
fact it was the finest display of bowling we have produced this
year on a Saturday. There was not a bad ball for 40 overs! Wasim
'Omar Sharif' Olam, Buggy, Ahmed and 'Bollywood' Shah all did a
fine job for us. Totteridge managed some late hitting on this hot
day, to end up with 131 for 9 after 53 overs, but this target was
easily dealt with and it proved a good night in the bar! And it
must be said that Totteridge were a sociable bunch in the evening,
which can't be said of many teams in this day and age. I hope that
the next three Mondays will see updates of this website and if so,
we may get promoted.
I also need to mention Kojak's Sunday Two's, who
have now won all their League games this year. The last game
against Harrow Weald needed to be won to guarantee them the league
title. This win was given to Kojak by the out of form Faz Alleyne,
who held the side together after a dodgy start and produced a
match winning 55 not out. Well done the 2nd team!
A brief mention of this years Summer Tour to
Bournemouth. The tour was a resounding success. Articles will
appear in the headlines page, as and when I have borrowed photos
to scan in. Also I wanted to let you know that I am in discussion
with the tour company over next years tour. I have asked them to
make enquiries regarding hotels in Bournemouth for the week
beginning Sunday 27th July 2003.
