HTCC News Weekend 7th - 8th May 2005

Hi All,

As usual I have included the teams for the weekend in this email, so please
confirm to me, by email, that you are ok for the match you've been selected for.

Also annual subs are due very soon and if you don't pay before 31st May, you
won't be eligible to play. (Please see the Club Secretary, Pat Micallef,  if
you have any queries)

A quick word on the games played at the weekend. Another fine performance by the
Saturday 1st XI, a win by 10 wickets, chasing 142! A good team performance, with
the bowlers, Buggy, Anuj (opening for the 1st time), Ty and Sharky all putting
in good performances - a special mention goes to Shahid (Sharky), who bowled
for the ones for the first time in the league, 18 overs 2 for 40, well done!
Then myself and Kev chased down the runs in 24 overs! More woe for the 2nd team
batting, but I have faith that they will come good, there is a lot of talent
there.

A good day for the club on Sunday, with the One's travelling to Teddington and
the Two's playing against the normally strong Haringey Libraries, who they beat
soundly, with Owen taking 5 wickets, Darren getting 40+ and Kermit cementing
his position at number 5, with another score of 30. Teddington was always
going to be a tall order and we could have found ourselves on the end of a real
hiding, but we came out of the game with real credit. We batted first and
although we only managed 94 in 36 overs, we all did very well. All the batsmen
played some fine shots and everyone looked to bat properly - Most of the
bowling was of good line and length and when you consider that the oppo had 5
1st Class County Players in their team, both Ty and Justin made their opening
bats look silly at times, taking a wicket a piece. Mind you, class told in the
end and they beat us by 8 wickets. Also I must mention that the neutral umpire
pointed out that Taffy took a catch that the ex-Notts wicket keeper couldn't
even dream about taking! Taffy wouldn't forgive me if I didn't mention that! On
the whole we can all be very proud of ourselves.

By the way, if you notice, our Sunday 1st XI for this week is the same team that
played at Teddington! How often has that happened in the past? Things are
certainly looking up!

Once again please can you take a note of where you have been picked to play,
what time the meet times are (especially as you have read the new Player's
Charter!) and email me back to confirm.

Best Regards
Paul Hewitt
