Milestones 2001 - (01/06/2001)

Batting - The race is on to become the highest aggregate run scorer of our
clubs history. At the start of the 2001 season Dave Blacktopp (14863) was 82 runs
from overtaking ex-player Mike Heathfield (14782). Yet with Dave coming back
from injury, batting 10 or 11 and Des Kerr (14297) in his usual fine form (139
against Totteridge in the league match a few weeks ago), I think it is going to
be a close run thing.
Des Kerr deserves a special mention at this time, not only is he in the race
to become our clubs history, but he is odds on favorite to become our first
ever player to score 15000 runs for the club. The 703 runs he needed at the
start of the season, would normally be a foregone conclusion, considering he has
the 2nd highest number of 1000 run seasons and also the record number of runs in
a single season, but Pauline and Des Kerr are expecting their 1st baby within
weeks and Des could be very busy over the coming months.
However as you are looking through the club records Des Kerr is definitely a
name to watch out for.
Also it is likely that you will see Paul Hewitt (9735) reach 10000 runs for
the club, very soon, as he only had 265 to go at the start of the season.
Bowling - Last season, as was announced at the end of season dinner, Siggy
Cragswell (1032) passed the 1000 wicket landmark, not bad for someone who won
the batting cup in his 1st season at the club, mind you that was in 1965! At
this point it is worth checking out how many times he has won the bowling cup
between 1969 and 2000.
