Summary of the 2001 Season

A great cup run for the Sunday 1st XI. We played 4 cup games
against Premier league opposition, beating Stevenage in the Becker
Cup (2nd round), narrowly losing to Hertford (I am
not just saying that either, we really gave them a scare!)
in the quarter finals of the same cup and giving a good account of
ourselves against the Premiership Champions, Hoddesdon in
the ECB National cup (although we were really trounced by
Bishops Stortford in the Bertie Joel). We also beat two other higher division teams
in the Becker Cup, 2nd division Abbots Langley (1st round) and 3rd division
Wheathampstead (preliminary round). (For those who don't know we play our league games
in Division 4 of the Saracens Hertfordshire League)
The club had a good season, considering the
first half of the year we were still playing at temporary
accommodation, whilst our ground was being rebuilt and in the
second half we were contending with a new pitch (to give you an
idea of this, I broke my arm opening the batting 4 weeks into
using the new pitch! I now have a 4 inch plate in my wrist). The
club won 48 games, drew 8 and lost 29 (and 1 aban, 17 cancelled)
